Fourteen classmates choose have a cup of coffee and share their CHRISTmas kookies. I can not say enough how much fun it is to calibrate our time together. Sadly we have lost seven class mates since the 55th reunion, and fourteen in 2018. I urge everyone to get involved. Come and enjoy a few moments with old (no PUN intended) friends. This is the last coffee gathering for 2018. Hopefully we will all see each other come February 2019. Merry CHRISTmas to all, and have a safe and happy New Year.

Definately the largest coffee gathering ever! There were a least 20+ classmates that attended. I think that it was good that we had the meeting at the mall. We may have overwhelmedd the Maritime Center. The were lots of reason for the exceptional turnout. Classmates returning from parts unknown, reunion update and planning session. It was GREAT!

The coffee clutch met for the first time this year at the Maritime Center, Vantage Point. Our thanks to the staff of the Maritime Center for allowing us to meet there. It's always enjoyable to get together. I think we learn more about the people and events of our time in high school at every meeting. There is a growing interest in what is planned for any reunion next year, or 55th year following graduation.

I must apologize for no photos of the gathering. I was so consumed with discussions about the reunion 2018, that I did not get a chance to take photos. I have to say there is a lot of enthusiasm with the attendees. The discussion was worth while, progress was made toward the reunion. The matter of cost was discussed and it was a hard and difficult decision. But we needed to be certain to cover all of the anticipated expenses. The decision was NOT taken lightly, but because of that decision, invitations/registration letters are in the mail. Should there be a significant excess when all things are final, gift card drawings could return some of the excess the night of the dinner.

Another suggestions was that there could be a "flash mob" Friday night before the dinner. We could use the banner so kindly donated by Betty (Working) and her husband Jack Rowley to draw a crowd down on Black River near the Harbor Master Building. It would offer additional time for meet and greet. Also for those who didn't want to attend the dinner, it would be a ZERO dollar opportunity. It could like a blind date, it you don't like the people you see there, JUST KEEP ON WALKING!

The first coffee meeting of the year was attended by sixteen guests despite the loss of the snow birds. Of course there were questions regarding the 2018 reunion. Without a formal announcement I have gathered 83 names of people (55 classmates and 28 guests) interested in attending. Some as far away as Sweden, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Canada, and Arizona. Awaiting the next planning committee meeting. When? Hopefully soon invitations will be mailed.

Take a close look at the photos. There are two photos of a shirt I commissioned to TP Logos, 1100 Michigan Ave. Ste. B, Marysville, MI. For a little more then the price of a shirt, Todd will embroider the "PHHS Class of 1963" logo on your purchase. He will embroider the same logo on apparels you bring in for a small fee. Visit their web site at TPLOGOS.COM, or email Todd Powers.

There was some discussion about students smoking. Rich Woods thought that there was a student smoking lounge. Everyone else said we don't remember that. Maybe it's our age. So I resorted to the 1960 Student Hand book. The following is a quote from page 18. "Smoking, by the students, on the school grounds, is absolutely prohibited. Punishment for smoking on any other school grounds is one day suspension from school and a zero for each class missed that day. The school grounds are bound on the south by Court Street, on the west by 24th Street and on the north and east by Farley and 20th Streets." I didn't smoke but it seems that "Sam &l Joes" was the place to go. Sue and I were discussing the dress code of our day. The granddaughter couldn't believe it. She says she couldn't live with that. Isn't amazing how our society has changed. Read more of the interesting facts in the handbook that can be found on the photograph page.

The last coffee meeting of the year was a success, drawing one of the largest crowds. It seems that we all have a sweet tooth as the cookie swap photos demonstrate.

It all began in October of 2010 with a small group of classmates wishing to get together It wasn't long before others wished to continue the informal gatherings around a cup of coffee and conversation, Since that time, it has grown to a monthly coffee and then a breakfast gathering was formed. I have realized the number photos and storage on the web site is ever increasing, I am removing seven years of photo from the web site. Anyone wishing to view the past is welcome to copies of the photos, just drop me a line or call. I will send you a DVD of the photos. Thank you for your participation in our gatherings. I hope the rest of you enjoy viewing them. I will be maintaining photos online for one year prior to the current year.

Eleven classmates came to Vantage Point to meet Richard "Dick" Johnson. It was an amazing gathering of individuals for such a short notice. Those that attended were Richard "Dick" Johnson, Dale Jurk, Bob Hale, George "Bing" Kirby, Joann King, Larry and Caryl Atfield-Butler, Gary "Nick" and Margaret Simerson-Nichoson, Sharon Seibert-Whiting, and myself. Of coarse the topic of the approaching reunion was talked about. Some expressions of concern were expressed about another reunion in at the McMorran, but I think I can say all felt that the importance of the 50th reunion was more important then where it was held. Fifty years is a long time, and for some of us, it will be a very important last gathering. Like other unformatted meetings, we shared life experiences, the whereabouts and continued communications with other classmates. The coffee and conversation were welcomed and enjoyed by all. Look for another impromptu coffee clutch meeting. Maybe we can get more classmates to attend and enjoy each others company. Again if anyone wants suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out as best I can.

Four classmates came to Vantage point to meet with Cici Ruebig, one of three foreign exchange students in the class. After talks of our families, occupations, and interests, thoughts turned to the fast approaching 50th anniversary of the class of 1963. It's amazing how fast the time is passing. All thought that it is important to begin seeking feedback, begin planning, and making reservations for the various locations and services that will be needed. Please pass along your comments to anyone on the planning committee. Look for another impromptu coffee clutch meeting. Maybe we can get some prior committee members to attend. Again if anyone wants suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out as best I can.

The attendance was pretty GOOD. You missed seeing Judi Payton-Brackenbury, Laura Marlette-Huebner, JoAnne King-Westrick, Carl Shoenberg, Rick Heering, Charlie Winters, Caryl Atfield-Butler and husband Larry, myself and wife Sue. Of coarse there was plenty of talk about high and junior high school and persons we knew but no longer in touch. On the bigger note, there was discussion about our next reunion. All of us are looking forward to a spectacular event. Along that subject I participated in the early planning stages of the recent Class of '61 50th reunion. John Chidister and his team of volunteers did a outstanding job. Both Judi and Rick attended the reunion. Both brought the classmate booklet. Judi also brought along her necklace and name tag, commemorative coffee cup, chocolate, and another document. I must admit that I failed to pay close attention to it but suspect it was an agenda for the reunion dinner. You can see a photo of the items by following the Album 12 link below. The Class of '61 choose the Edison Inn to host their event. We all agreed that it was good to have the event where classmates could stay, continue parties, freshen up when needed, plan daily activities, etc. It is thought that doing so might attract guest from further distances. An interesting note is that the Class of '61 had several volunteer events, that each classmate/spouse could choose to participate in. These activities were billed for separately, giving the attendees an option to participate or not, considering their budget and interest needs. I believe activities include a golf outing, luncheon at the golf club, town tours, high school tour, cruise on the Huron Lady, Party at the Port Huron Yacht Club to name a few. The Class of '61 found sponsors for their Classmate book that made a professional looking document. The also had benefactors that donated money for those strapped for cash to attend the reunion. The Coffee Clutch talked over location possibilities and it was pretty much agreed that the 50th had some significant and that another location would be a wise choice. Another thought for keeping the costs down was a cash bar.

If anyone is interested in another meeting, let me know I will pass the word. Maybe you would welcome a group of classmates into your home, office space, or another location. You name it, I will pass the word in email and web page. Incidentally, if you have the email address of other classmates, I would welcome them. I keep them strictly confidential and only share with confirmation from each student. If you have any comments, I could post them as well.

The attendance was small, but fun none the less. Caryl Atfield-Butler and husband Larry, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, Len Patterson and wife Sue met in the steamy room of Vantage point. Although the view was great of the icy river, the sun heated the area to near sauna conditions. The staff at Vantage Point was gracious in adjusting the air conditioner, but we found little comfort in our area. Our discussion covered more about how unknowingly we were related, either by blood or by marriage. We talked of past reunions, looked at the web page (taking advantage of their free wireless) and reunion photos. We need to seek out other photos, handbooks, Lighthouse newspapers, etc. to support the 50th calibration. If you have any materials that I can use, please contact me. I will copy and return all materials in original condition. For our next casual meeting we hope to get Sharon Siebert-Whiting and husband John to attend. We hope to see of you there.

Spouses Larry Butler, Ron Pratt, and Sue Patterson are to be commended as they accompanied their spouses at the Marysville Tim Horton's.

We had an enjoyable lunch while sharing pictures and stories. I will be posting the new photos soon on the web page.

One thing that Caryl suggested was to consider having the 50th reunion at the Sea Way Terminal. We all thought that a change would be nice. The Sea Way Terminal has some nice benefits, view, parking, etc. I have got to say this should be kept in mind when the real committee begins to gather. What are your thoughts? Drop us a line.

We haven't set a time or place for another meeting, but if anyone has a suggestion... let us know. Winter is coming and many locals will be heading south. Keep us in your thoughts while we sit in the snow.
